Vol.36 新作ZINE『Be Water vol.2』オンライン発売のお知らせ

個展や書籍販売イベントで毎回ご好評をいただいているZINE『Be Water』。このたび、その続編となる『Be Water vol.2』のオンライン販売をスタートしました。今回は、その魅力と制作背景についてご紹介します。

「Be Water」──その原点

香港の伝説的アクションスター、ブルース・リーの名言「Be Water（水になれ）」。
柔軟に、自在に、あらゆる形へと姿を変える水のように──

その思想にインスピレーションを受けて生まれたのが、シリーズ第一作『Be Water』です。本作は、岐阜県関市にある湧水の池、通称「モネの池」をベースに、国内外の風景を重ね合わせた多重露光による作品集。このシリーズは、ある社会問題をきっかけに制作が始まりました。その背景については、こちらのブログ「多重露光的撮影裏話：シリーズ『Be Water』」で詳しくご紹介しています。

表現の進化──建築との融合

『Be Water』シリーズの撮影は、初版の出版後も継続してきました。
数年にわたり、さまざまな被写体との重なりを試みる中で、新たな表現の可能性を探り続けています。その中で見えてきたのが、建築物との強い親和性です。特にイスラム建築のモスクと水のイメージが重なったとき、これまでにない美しさと静けさが作品に宿りました。『Be Water vol.2』では、そうした新たな表現の到達点をご覧いただけます。

平和への願いを込めて

このシリーズは、「平和な世界を多重露光で表現する」というコンセプトから始まりました。しかし現実の世界では、今なお戦争や紛争が各地で続いています。
子供の頃に思い描いていた未来とは異なる現実に直面する中で、あらためて「平和」をテーマに作品を届ける意味を強く感じています。だからこそ今、この作品集を手に取っていただきたいと考えています。

作品を通して感じる、静かな祈り

New ZINE “Be Water vol.2” Now Available

My ZINE Be Water, which has been very popular at exhibitions and book events, now has a sequel.
I’m excited to announce that Be Water vol.2 is now available online.Here, I’d like to share more about the concept and background behind this new work.

The Origin of “Be Water”

“Be Water” — a famous quote by the legendary Hong Kong action star Bruce Lee.
“Be formless, shapeless, like water.”

Inspired by this philosophy of fluidity and transformation, the first volume, Be Water, was created.
This work is a collection of multiple exposure photographs based on “Monet’s Pond” in Seki City, Gifu, Japan — a spring-fed pond known for its koi fish — layered with landscapes from Japan and around the world.
The series itself began in response to a particular social issue. For more about the background, please see my blog: “Behind the Scenes of Multiple Exposure: Series Be Water.”

Evolution of Expression — Fusion with Architecture

After publishing the first volume, I continued shooting on the Be Water series, exploring new visual possibilities through layering various subjects over the years.
Through this process, I discovered a strong affinity between water imagery and architecture.
Among them, Islamic mosques stood out — their forms and atmosphere created a uniquely powerful and serene visual expression when combined with water.
In Be Water vol.2, you will see the results of this evolving exploration.

A Reflection on Peace

This series originally began with the concept of expressing a peaceful world through multiple exposure.
Yet, in reality, conflicts and wars continue to unfold across the globe.
As a child, I believed the world would only move toward a better future. I never imagined that new wars would still arise in the 21st century.
Precisely because of the times we live in, I feel a strong desire to share this work centered on the idea of peace.

A Quiet Prayer Through Images

Each image in Be Water vol.2 carries a sense of fluidity and a wish for harmony — like water itself. If this work allows you to feel even a small sense of peace, it would mean a great deal to me.
