Vol.47 写真集「Resonance」出版プロジェクト、1ヶ月を迎えて

写真集「Resonance」出版に向けたクラウドファンディングがスタートして、1ヶ月が経ちました。この1ヶ月、本当にたくさんの方から応援やメッセージをいただき、現在、目標金額の63％*で到達することができています。クラウドファンディング開始初日には30％を達成し、1週間後には50％を突破。これほど好調なスタートを切ることができたことに、驚きと感謝の気持ちでいっぱいです！

応援してくださったのは、友人や知人をはじめ、これまで展示に足を運んでくださった方、ワークショップに参加してくださった方、作品や写真集などを購入してくださった方など、本当にたくさんの方々。さらに、今回は海外からも応援をいただきました。そして、支援とともに寄せていただいた応援コメントも、一つひとつ嬉しく読ませていただいています。
改めて、この写真集は自分一人で作っているものではなく、たくさんの方の応援に支えられながら形になっているのだと実感しています。

「Resonance」の制作も進んでいます

そして、写真集「Resonance」の制作もすでに始まっています。今回の印刷・製本をお願いするのは、前作「Mission」に引き続き、地元・岐阜県のタカダ印刷さんです。
タカダ印刷の代表・高田さんは、とてもチャレンジングな方。既成概念にとらわれず、常に新しいアイデアを考えながら、印刷や製本の可能性を追求されています。そんな高田さんに、今回は写真集の表紙デザインをお願いしています。7月には制作途中の打ち合わせでお話を伺ってきました。
今までの写真集とはまったく違う、もはや「写真集」という言葉だけでは表現できないようなデザインになりそうです。僕自身も完成がとても楽しみです。

そして本文については、東京で233PRESSの中根さん、デザイナーの小宅さんと僕を含めた制作チームで打ち合わせを行い、最終的な掲載作品のセレクトも進めています。掲載したい作品が本当に多く、そこから削っていく作業にはかなり苦労しました。一方で、作品によっては少し意外な「仕掛け」も考えています。写真をただ並べるだけではなく、ページをめくることで作品の見え方や感じ方が変わるような、そんな一冊にできればと思っています。

なぜ「Resonance」を制作するのか

ここで改めて、なぜ僕がこの写真集を制作するのかについてお話したいと思います。

僕が初めて多重露光の写真を撮影したのは2010年。偶然生まれた一枚の写真との出会いをきっかけに、多重露光という表現に魅了され、「何か新しいことを始めたい」という衝動に突き動かされるようになりました。それから16年。
日本国内だけでなく世界各地で撮影を続け、さまざまな技法や表現方法を試しながら、多重露光による作品を制作してきました。その間、個展やイベントで作品をご覧いただいた方から、

「私も何か新しいことを始めてみたい」
「以前やめてしまったことを、もう一度始めてみたい」

そんな言葉をいただくことがあります。それは、僕にとって本当に嬉しい瞬間です。なぜなら、僕自身が多重露光という表現に出会ったときに感じた「心を揺さぶられる感覚」が、今度は作品を通して誰かの心へ伝わっているように感じるからです。作品を見た人の心が動き、そこから新しい一歩が生まれる。そんな「共鳴」を、もっと多くの人に届けたい。それが、この写真集を制作しようと思った大きな理由です。

16年間にわたって制作してきた作品を一冊にまとめることで、多重露光という表現の面白さだけではなく、そこに込めてきた思いや、作品を通して生まれてきた「共鳴」まで届けたいと思っています。そして、この写真集を手に取った誰かの心に小さな振動が生まれ、それが新しい挑戦や、もう一度何かを始めるきっかけになってくれたら。そんな願いを込めて、この写真集を「Resonance」と名付け、制作をすることにしたのです。

このプロジェクトは、まだ続きます

クラウドファンディングは、スタートから1ヶ月を迎えましたが、プロジェクトはまだ終わっていません。写真集「Resonance」を実際に手に取っていただける機会として、クラウドファンディングでは写真集をはじめ、額装作品など、いくつかのリターンをご用意しています。
すでに応援してくださった皆さんには、改めて心から感謝しています。そして、これからこのプロジェクトを知ってくださる皆さんにも、この一冊が届くことを楽しみにしています。「Resonance」が、誰かの心を動かし、その振動がまた次の誰かへ伝わっていく。そんな一冊を、皆さんと一緒に完成させたいと思っています。

写真展開催のお知らせ

このクラウドファンディングと連動した写真展「Resonance」をギャラリー世田谷233にて下記内容にて開催します！皆さんとお会いできることを楽しみにしています。

本展では、『Resonance』に収録予定の作品の中から、さまざまな技法で撮影したフィルムカメラによる多重露光の作品を厳選して展示します。また、クラウドファンディングのリターンとしてご用意している額装写真の実物もご覧いただけます。
多重露光が生み出す幻想的で美しく、どこか狂気を秘めた世界を、ぜひ会場でご体感ください。もちろん本人在廊予定もありますので、ご都合が合いましたら是非お会いしましょう！！

Vol.47 One Month into the “Resonance” Photobook Project

It has now been one month since the crowdfunding campaign for my new photobook, Resonance, began.Over the past month, I have received an incredible amount of support and heartfelt messages from so many people. Thanks to all of you, the project has now reached 63% of its funding goal.
On the very first day, we reached 30%, and within just one week, we surpassed 50%.
I honestly never expected the project to get off to such a strong start, and I am filled with both surprise and gratitude.

The people who have supported this project include friends and acquaintances, people who have visited my exhibitions, participants in my workshops, and those who have purchased my artworks and photobooks over the years. I have also received support from people outside Japan, which has made this project feel even more special.

I have been deeply touched by the many encouraging messages that have accompanied the support. Reading each one reminds me once again that this photobook is not something I am creating alone—it is being brought to life with the support of so many people.

The Production of “Resonance” Is Already Underway

At the same time, production of Resonance has already begun. The printing and bookbinding will once again be handled by Takada Printing, based in Gifu Prefecture, my home region. They also produced my previous photobook, Mission.
The company’s representative, Ms. Takada, is an incredibly adventurous and creative person. Rather than being bound by conventional ideas, she is always looking for new possibilities in printing and bookbinding.
For this project, I have asked her to work on the cover design of Resonance.
In July, I visited her to hear about the progress of the project. I cannot reveal the details just yet, but I can say that the design is shaping up to be something completely different from my previous photobooks—perhaps something that goes beyond what we normally think of as a “photobook.”
I am very excited to see how it turns out.

The design of the interior is also progressing. I recently met in Tokyo with Mr. Nakane from 233PRESS and designer Mr. Oyake to discuss the final selection of photographs. There were simply too many photographs I wanted to include, so narrowing them down was quite a challenge. At the same time, I am also planning a few unexpected elements within the book. Rather than simply placing photographs one after another, I want the experience of turning the pages to change the way the works are seen and felt.

Why Am I Making “Resonance”?

At this point, I would like to take a moment to talk about why I decided to create this photobook in the first place.

I took my first multiple exposure photograph in 2010. It all began with a single photograph that was created almost by accident. That unexpected image introduced me to the possibilities of multiple exposure photography and sparked something inside me—a strong desire to try something new. Sixteen years have passed since then. I have continued photographing multiple exposures not only throughout Japan, but also in many different parts of the world, experimenting with various techniques and ways of expressing what I see.

Over the years, people who have seen my work at exhibitions and events have sometimes told me:

“Your work makes me want to start something new.”
“It makes me want to pick up something I once gave up.”

Hearing those words is one of the most rewarding experiences for me. Because it makes me feel that the sensation I experienced when I first encountered multiple exposure photography—that feeling of being deeply moved and inspired—is now reaching someone else through my own work. A work of art moves someone’s heart, and from that movement, a new step begins. I believe that is a kind of “resonance.”

And I want to create a photobook that can carry that resonance to even more people. That is one of the main reasons I decided to make Resonance. By bringing together works created over the past 16 years, I want this book to communicate not only the possibilities and fascination of multiple exposure photography, but also the thoughts and emotions behind these works—and the resonance that has emerged through them. If someone picks up this book and feels even the slightest vibration in their heart, and that feeling inspires them to take on a new challenge or start something again, then this book will have achieved something truly meaningful. That is why I chose the title Resonance and make this photo book.

The Project Is Not Over Yet

Although the crowdfunding campaign has now reached its one-month mark, the project is still continuing. Through the crowdfunding campaign, I have prepared several rewards, including the Resonance photobook itself and a selection of framed artworks. To everyone who has already supported this project, I would like to once again express my deepest gratitude. And to those who are discovering this project for the first time, I hope you will join us on this journey.

I hope Resonance will move someone’s heart—and that the vibration created by that moment will travel on to someone else. That is the book I want to create, together with all of you.

Exhibition in Tokyo

The photo exhibition “Resonance”, held in conjunction with my current crowdfunding project, will take place at Gallery Setagaya 233!I’m very much looking forward to meeting you all there.
For this exhibition, I have carefully selected a collection of multiple-exposure works created with film cameras using a variety of techniques. These works are among those planned to be included in my upcoming photobook, Resonance.
You will also have the opportunity to see the actual framed photographs that are being offered as rewards for the crowdfunding project.

Please come and experience in person the fantastical and beautiful world created through multiple exposure—a world that also carries a subtle sense of madness and mystery.
I will also be at the gallery throughout the day on the opening weekend, so if you are able to visit, I would love to meet you in person!
