この写真集を出版したきっかけは、「音楽ジャケットに自分の作品が使われる」という長年の夢を叶えるためでした。私の作品はよく「音楽を感じる」「ストーリー性がある」と言っていただくことが多く、私自身もそう感じていました。そのため、この写真集をレコードジャケットに見立てて出版することを決め、サイズも30cm×30cmのレコードジャケットと同じサイズにしました。
この思いに共感してくださったギャラリー世田谷233のオーナー、中根さんの協力で、233PRESS（同ギャラリー運営の出版部門）から出版することが決まったのです。さらに、中根さんのご紹介で、ケミカル系ユニット“the FLASH KNOBS（フラッシュノブズ）”とのコラボレーションが実現し、写真集の世界観をイメージしたサウンドトラックもリリースされました。

Over the past five blog posts, I’ve covered some of the common mistakes in multiple exposure photography and their solutions. How did you find the tips? For this post, I’d like to take a moment to introduce my photo book, “X-ing” (Crossing). This book features works shot entirely using multiple exposures and developed through cross-processing. As such, it serves as a valuable reference for anyone interested in mastering multiple exposure photography.
All the photos in this collection were taken with the iconic LOMO LC-A series cameras (LC-A+, LC-Wide, and LC-A120), representing Lomography’s signature style. When shooting, I paid careful attention to factors like brightness, composition, and color contrast—topics I’ve covered in previous posts. Additionally, if you ever find yourself wondering, “What should I layer together for my multiple exposure shots?” this book is filled with ideas to inspire you.

The Dream Behind the Photo Book

The reason I published “X-ing” stems from a personal dream: I wanted to see my work featured on music album covers. Many people have told me that my photos evoke a sense of music or storytelling, and I’ve felt the same way. So, I thought, “One day, I want my photos to be used on album covers.” This dream led me to design and publish the photo book in a 30cm x 30cm format, the same size as a vinyl record cover, to resemble album artwork.
When I shared this idea with Mr. Nakane, the owner of Gallery Setagaya 233, he kindly supported my vision and proposed publishing the book through 233PRESS, the gallery’s publishing arm. What’s more, through Mr. Nakane’s connections, I collaborated with the chemical unit “the FLASH KNOBS” to release a soundtrack inspired by the world of the photo book. The synergy between sound and image was truly magical!

Dream Fulfilled: My Work Featured on Major Music Covers

About four years after publishing “X-ing”, my dream became a reality. Universal Music selected my work to be used for the cover photos of Naoto Inti Raymi’s digital singles “Rule” and “Arittake no Love Song”. Yes, my dream came true!
